Hi SAR members, colleagues and anyone else who wandered to our site,
It’s hard to believe my year as president is winding down…but it is! I will preside over our meeting next week then pass the torch to Judy Yee, MD. Our meeting in Coronado, California is promising to be terrific. Right now we have over 700 attendees registered—and we always get a few more at the meeting itself. With 189 workshops, special sessions on Dual Energy CT, Prostate MR, Imaging of the Small Bowel and (back by popular demand) Virtual Colonoscopy not to mention all of the plenary sessions and paper presentations…who can argue that a great deal of education is not packed into the week?
But wait there’s more: our Business meeting and lunch and In Camera Session on Sunday, the inaugural meeting of the newly formed APDAR (Association of Program Directors in Abdominal Radiology) and Welcome Reception on Monday, and the Awards Ceremony and Reception on Wednesday. We also have several special lectures from Drs. Richard L. Ehman, Peter R. Carroll, Hiromu Mori, Harriet C. Thoeny, and Andrea Laghi. New at this year’s meeting is the awarding of the best paper of the year from Abdominal Imaging (AI), our society’s journal as well as a committee to assess the educational exhibits for possible submission to AI in review article form.
Who is meeting at our meeting? The newly formed Disease Focused Panels (DFP) Oversight Committee (with two open Q&A sessions regarding the DFP program), all of the newly approved disease focused panels, the Educational Program Planning committee, the Scientific Program committee, the newly formed Website Education Committee, the Corporate Support committee, the current and incoming Social Media Committees, APDAR, and the Editorial Board for AI. More details about all of these will be available on our meeting App!
What else can I report? John Leyendecker has spent the year as our Visiting Professor and has blogged his way across America and oversees (for more details and some really great stories visit http://jrlsarvp.blogspot.com/). As he wraps up his tenure, we have a new Visiting Professor for 2015-2016: Mukesh Harisinghani! I am sure you will all be vying to get him to come to your institutions to lecture. He will also be joining Judy Yee as she takes the next International Education Conference contingent to South Africa to the Radiological Society of South Africa’s next meeting where 8 of our members will be welcomed.
Stay tuned for an announcement of the research awards…as well as our newest member of the SAR board…you’ll hear it earlier if you attend the annual meeting!
In all it’s been a great year.
Hope to see you next week in Coronado,
