Colleagues and Friends of the SAR,
I am excited to tell you about the remarkable progress of our society. We continue to grow with over 1200 members and an active campaign to expand trainee and international membership. Our Board held a strategic retreat developing vision and mission statements and strategic goals for the next five years which can be seen on this website. The SAR's mission is to advance patient health by the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of abdominal disease through education, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Disease-Focused Panel (DFP) program has continued to expand with 11 active panels with about 200 members participating. The products of these panels include multidisciplinary, peer reviewed publications on best practices for diagnosis and treatment of specific abdominal diseases. Our renamed journal Abdominal Radiology continues to expand under the stewardship of Editor Dan Johnson with monthly publication and an increasing impact factor.
Our international outreach program is thriving with a successful trip to Curitiba, Brazil last October lecturing at the Brazilian College of Radiology. The International Education Conference (IEC) is currently accepting applications for the meeting in Santiago, Chile in September 2017. We continue to value and support our international medical colleagues. To further promote exchange, each year the SAR supports a promising junior scholar from the host society to attend our subsequent SAR meeting.
Our 2017 meeting in Hollywood, Florida has an exciting program including 70 peer reviewed scientific presentations, 153 posters 163 didactic workshops, 5 SAMs, 5 hands-on workshops and eight plenary sessions featuring topics on genetics, imaging and intervention of abdominal diseases. Registration is currently very strong and we are providing up to 47.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ including 5.25 ARLM leadership credits. Our Canon and New Horizons lectures feature 3d imaging and machine learning using artificial intelligence. The venue at the Diplomat Beach Resort has undergone a $100 million makeover including nine restaurants which should provide a collegial environment to congregate with our colleagues. Please see the full program on this website.
I thank my colleagues on the Board and all the volunteers who make our society the success that it is. I look forward to seeing you soon!
