A Message from the SAR President

April 2018

new imageDear Members, Colleagues and Friends of the SAR,

This has been a truly wonderful year for SAR, which goes from strength to strength. First, it was a pleasure to see so many of you at our Annual Meeting in Scottsdale in March. Thanks to Bernie King for a spectacular program and to all the speakers who participated. The content was fresh, relevant and preparing us for the future. Thank you to all who participated in the Workshops and the many other educational events during the meeting. We had a number of activities that focused on early career trainees and faculty (including the evening events), which were a great success. Congratulations to the awardees of the scientific and poster prizes, and of course to the recipients of the Life-time Achievement Awards and The Pollack and Cannon Medals. This was our largest meeting ever with well over 1000 attendees (and a couple of birds flying around the auditorium all week for those who noticed!). Thank you to IMM for helping us run such a successful meeting.

I would like also to thank many of you who helped me throughout the year during my Presidency. This is very much a team sport and countless colleagues helped make this such a successful year. I am particularly thankful to the Board, but the richness of our Society is really down to every single member. I would also to give a special thank you to my fellow IEC travelers to Chile in September 2017 and to our Chilean hosts.

As we look to the future, I am strongly encouraged that SAR is the go to Society for everything in Abdominal Radiology. The number of activities that continue throughout the year are numerous (please check out the website). Furthermore, the Disease Focused Panels (DFPs) go from strength to strength with new committees formed each year with numerous SAR expert participants. Part of our mission is to prepare us for healthcare and radiology in the future and rest assured, the continued activities of SAR will make sure that we provide the latest scientific, educational and leadership content to all members, at all times. As mentioned, we have a strong focus on early career radiologists as you are our future and we encourage active participation throughout all our activities. SAR is also deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, wellness and professionalism.

I would like to wish Bernie King the very best for his Presidency this year and look forward to SAR 2018 in Orlando, Florida with another spectacular program being set by Jonny Kruskal.
