Pancreatic IPMN DFP

DFP Profile

SAR Pancreatic IPMN (Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm) DFP

To address the current variability in evaluation of IPMN and other cystic pancreatic lesions, by formulating a concise radiology reporting template that is designed to aid in the diagnosis and management of cystic lesions of the pancreas, and to serve as a source of updated knowledge on the biology and imaging of IPMN by fostering development of imaging research in IPMN and cystic pancreatic lesions that inform understanding of biologic aggressiveness and pathophysiology.

  1. Provide guidelines for size assessment of cystic pancreatic lesions.
  2. Formulate a concise radiology reporting template to include essential imaging features key to the diagnosis and management of cystic pancreatic lesions.
  3. To compare the existing guidelines in management of cystic pancreatic lesions (ACR, revised Sendai criteria, AGA) and review current literature on appropriate use of biopsy, type of imaging and interval of imaging in follow-up of cystic pancreatic lesions.
  4. To work with gastroenterologists and surgeons to establish appropriate use of EUS/FNA in work up and surveillance, as well as to evaluate novel technologies used in diagnosis and management.
  5. Formulate collaborative research projects for evaluation of pathophysiology of IPMN and improving the imaging techniques used and present findings at American Pancreatic Association and DDW.
  6. Provide teaching for SAR members on:

    A) Molecular markers obtained from cyst aspiration

    B) Proper imaging techniques for more uniform evaluation across multiple sites and comparable reporting

    C) To serve as a source of updated knowledge on the biology and imaging of IPMN
